Who is Her?
Hong, the C4C founder, and Hoang Anh, the COO of the Center for Consultancy on Family Health and Community Development, partnered to create the Her Academy online support group and classes. The two single mothers worked hard to become independent and have a mission of providing these same opportunities for other mothers who struggle in traditional Vietnamese society.
What do they teach?
Her Academy provides FREE English classes in Hanoi, parenting classes, mental health workshops, educational events with social workers and more! In 2020 we hope to bring on full-time social workers and psychologists to give long-term suport to our beneficiary women. These future sessions will provide job consultation, suport with escaping domestic violence, counseling and more!
Why Parenting Classes?
For many families in Vietnam, children under the age of three are raised by grandparents, parents, and nannies who think that “children are too young to learn anything.” They are raised on traditional know-how rather than using educational resources or learning from others besides family members and friends. Relying on these “home practices” have caused problems and we want to lead the change in raising children who can be flexible in this rapidly changing society.
Her Academy is a series of parenting and English courses in Vietnam. It consists of both online forums, online resources and in-person classes. It was founded through the Empowerment Plan and aims to provide more opportunities for disenfranchised single mothers so that they can build the home environments and lives that they want for their children. Through classes that teach with a holistic approach to parenting and that focus on the needs of mothers, in particular, we want to change the perception of millions of parents in how they raise their children. Moreover, with the online course, mothers (especially single mothers) can access the information anytime, anywhere and with affordable costs, which help them save time and money in their busy schedules.
